And so it begins…

It’s a little depressing to realize that your final glimpse of America for at least a year will be Chicago O’Hare airport.

This should not be anyone's last view of America.

But I’m trying not to let it get me down too much.  Because in 7 hours, I’ll arrive in my new home – Ireland.  And that’s when I’ll catch me a leprechaun.

Truthfully, I thought I’d be a little more at odds about leaving DC.  Obviously, this is a move I want to make.  It’s taken months of work to get here, so if I didn’t want to go, I would have had plenty of opportunity to stop the whole process.  Still, I’ve been in DC for 8 years, and it’s been a very good home to me.  This morning, before I left for the airport, I stopped by my favorite spot in the whole city.

Lincoln Memorial

But rather than feeling a sense of loss at leaving this city that I love so much (a city my mom will remind me I once said I was born to live in), I felt the way I always feel at the Lincoln Memorial – a sense of calm empowerment.  And I was more than ready to start this new adventure*.

*By “adventure,” I want to make it clear that I do not mean a blog.  I have never and will never feel ready to start a blog.  But it certainly is a convenient way of keeping everyone in the loop while also forcing me to take my camera out more than once a year.
